CSX Technology Signs VinTelligent™ License Agreement with Embarcadero Systems Corp.

ALAMEDA, CA - February 23, 2003 - Embarcadero Systems Corporation (ESC) and CSX Technology, a subsidiary of CSX Corporation (CSX), announced today the signing of a deal that will enhance automobile delivery across the country. Embarcadero's web-based VinTelligentTM software accelerates automobile transportation throughout the distribution network. Deployment of the system will begin immediately and a systematic phase-in will bring complete on-line functionality by the end of 2004.

"In today's marketplace, it is essential for CSX Transportation (CSXT) and Total Distribution Services Inc. (TDSI) to exceed the ever increasing demands for customer service and operational efficiency. ESC's VinTelligent application provides us the answer for our customers' automotive businesses," said John West, Vice President - Application Development, CSX Technology. West continues, "One out of every three vehicles produced in the United States is currently delivered by CSXT. In fact, CSXT operates the largest rail network in the eastern United States moving more than six million vehicles annually through its extensive network." TDSI, a subsidiary of CSX, operates automobile terminals throughout the CSXT rail network.

Andy Strok, Vice President-Automotive Service Group, added, "CSXT continues to focus its energy and resources in areas that support its value proposition for customers. These enhancements will help facilitate ordinary people to do extraordinary things-taking our service product and productivity to the next level."

CSX Technology will deploy ESC's VinTelligent system for all of TDSI's automobile terminal operations including directly-served auto manufacturing plants. Scott Skillman, ESC's President, said, "The ESC / CSX Technology transaction furthers ESC's goal of becoming the premier software design and systems integrator for transportation providers and high-volume shippers."

Steven Lautsch, ESC's Senior Vice President, added, "ESC's VinTelligent enables operational excellence for carriers in the automotive sector, and for the automotive shipper, sharpens visibility into the supply chain. We are delighted CSX Technology chose Embarcadero Systems to be its partner in providing a real-time logistics solution to its customers."

VinTelligent is a Web-based system to manage and track the movement of automobiles and heavy vehicles. The system is scalable to fit medium to very large terminal operations. The technology used provides improved accuracy and speed, reduced delays, reduced handling, and optimal utilization of resources (e.g., personnel, yard and vessel management). VinTelligent provides for Internet browser-based interfaces to the data, allowing personnel, customers, and vendors access to pertinent information anytime and anywhere. State-of-the-art technology and flexible architecture allows VinTelligent to be deployed in the rail, truck, and maritime terminal environments.
