Embarcadero Systems Corporation Awarded Terminal Operating System Contract for the North Carolina State Ports Authority

ALAMEDA, CA - February 23, 2006 - Embarcadero Systems Corp. (ESC), a global provider of innovative transportation technology solutions, has been awarded the contract to provide the North Carolina State Ports Authority with a new terminal operating system.

In making the announcement, Embarcadero Systems Corp. Vice President Chuck Schneider expressed the company’s plans.

“The entire ESC team is excited to bring our expertise to the North Carolina State Port Authority with the deployment of this new Terminal Operating System (CATOS) for their terminals in Wilmington and Morehead city,” Schneider said. “ESC will install container terminal operating systems for the port’s facilities in Wilmington, Charlotte and Greensboro. Morehead City and Wilmington will have new breakbulk systems installed.”

Other applications included in the ESC contract are wireless applications to automate the communication of work orders to terminal equipment, a common invoicing system for both container and breakbulk cargo, a Web interface for cargo availability, scheduling, and alerting, and installation and training services.

The North Carolina State Ports Authority’s Chief Operating Officer Jeff Miles commented on the contract process.

“North Carolina State Ports Authority recognized the need to update our technology to maximize terminal operations capacity,” Miles said. “We put together a cross-functional group of stakeholders in our organization, from IT to operations, and took off on a cross-country tour of ports that already use terminal operating systems from the various vendors.”

After that tour, the Ports Authority’s bid review team chose ESC.

“We expect ESC’s solutions to increase our cargo throughput, improve customer service, and contribute to the ports’ overall growth and our competitive advantage,” Miles added.

ESC is currently providing systems integration and solutions to modernize seven of the highest-volume container terminals on the U.S. West Coast, operated by Marine Terminals Corp. ESC has integrated Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology at the terminal gate operations, rail yard and vessel, and Global Position Systems (GPS) technology on the Container Handling equipment. Customers using these solutions include terminal operators Total Terminals International (Hanjin), Seaside Transportation Services (Evergreen) and West Basin Container Terminal (China Shipping and Yang Ming Line). In addition, ESC also provides systems and solutions for significant breakbulk operations in the Pacific Northwest.
