Embarcadero Systems Corp. Deploys
VinTelligent System at CSX Florida Terminal
ALAMEDA, CA - October 9, 2003 -
Embarcadero Systems Corporation (ESC) and CSX Technology (CSXT),
a subsidiary of CSX Corporation (CSX), announced today the
deployment of the VinTelligent™ system at the first of 20
"inbound" vehicle distribution centers within the CSX network.
Embarcadero's VinTelligentTM system
is a Web-based application that optimizes automobile handling
at all points along the supply chain and accelerates automobile
transportation throughout the distribution network. Deployment
is systematically being phased-in at 30 CSX facilities and
will be completed by mid- 2004.
"At CSX Technology, we are proud
of our ability to leverage new technology to improve vehicle
handling operations. VinTelligent has allowed us to improve
our auto operations and reduce our overall technology costs,"
says John West, Vice President - Application Development,
CSX Technology. West continues, "This is important because
one out of every three vehicles produced in the United States
is currently delivered by CSXT. In fact, CSXT operates the
largest rail network in the eastern United States moving more
than six million vehicles annually through its extensive network."
"With VinTelligent, manufacturers
can now receive more timely status of vehicle events," explains
Chuck Schneider, ESC Vice President, Software Solutions. Schneider
continues, "Increasingly, auto manufacturers are requiring
carriers to provide near real-time supply chain integration
and visibility, thus VinTelligent is enabling CSX to provide
this level of service to their customers."
ESC's VinTelligent system enables operational excellence for carriers in the automotive sector, and for the automotive shipper, sharpens visibility into the supply chain. "We are delighted CSX Technology is pleased with Embarcadero Systems' work in providing a real-time logistics solution to its customers," remarks Schneider.
VinTelligent is a Web-based system
to manage and track the movement of automobiles and heavy
vehicles. The system is scalable to fit mid-sized to mega
terminal operations. The technology provides improved accuracy
and speed, reduced delays, reduced handling, and optimal utilization
of resources (e.g., personnel, yard and vessel management).
VinTelligent provides for wireless, hand-held Internet browser-based
interfaces to the data, allowing personnel, customers, and
vendors access to pertinent information anytime and anywhere.
State-of-the-art technology and flexible architecture allow
VinTelligent to be deployed in the rail, truck, and maritime
terminal environments.
