Embarcadero Systems Corp Launches VoyagerTrack® 5.0 with the Premier Appointment System™

ALAMEDA, CA - July 7, 2003 - Embarcadero Systems Corporation (ESC) announced today the release of VoyagerTrack® 5.0 which includes a real-time appointment module for motor carriers called the Premier Appointment System™. This new capability allows truckers to schedule arrival appointments at the gate.

VoyagerTrack is an asset visibility tool designed for use by terminal operators, trucking companies and the shipping community. The new PAS module in VoyagerTrack allows scheduling of gate appointments in order to increase efficiency, accelerate throughput, and optimize equipment utilization. This translates into reduced costs for terminal operators, while trucking companies can increase their number of "turns," thereby improving profitability.

"ESC is offering the best appointment system available for use within the marine industry" declares Steven G. Lautsch, Senior Vice President for ESC. Lautsch continues, "Far superior to competitive products being offered, PAS provides access to real-time data?never stale information! Focusing on supply chain management, PAS is another building block in the ESC suite of software solutions for the transportation industry." ESC's flexible appointment scheduling capability even allows truckers to choose the mode of interaction they prefer. To schedule their arrival time, truckers can use either a web-based interface, or an automated telephone system (Interactive Voice Response, or IVR).

Lautsch explains that VoyagerTrack is a mature software product that has been in production use for a number of years. It has a history of high reliability and availability, and user satisfaction ratings are excellent. Usage continues to increase. In fact, he says the VoyagerTrack web interface experienced a 143 percent increase in use from 2001 to 2002, and the number of IVR calls increased by 30 percent during that same time period.

"Our first release of PAS is just the beginning," observes Lautsch. "Soon ESC's suite of products will facilitate rapid movement through the entire supply chain from ocean carrier through the terminal into and beyond the warehouse. Improved equipment utilization translates into better economies and less traffic congestion."

One of ESC's key VoyagerTrack customers, Steve Longbotham, MTC's Vice President of Customer Technology explains, "ESC's easy-to-use appointment system was fully operational at all our California marine terminals by July 1, 2003 and over 1,300 appointments were made in just the first day". Longbotham concludes, "Clearly, this is the way of the future".
