smartGATE™ is hardware and software suite
that propels your existing terminal systems into the future
with the newest in electronic data collection and validation
technologies. SmartGATE provides centralized, remote processing
of gate transactions for intermodal facilities, resulting
in improved productivity, operator safety and facility security.
A key module of smartGATE is Intelligent Camera™, an engineering
innovation for Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) that provides
an effective and affordable terminal data collection solution.

Centralized Gate System
The foundation of the smartGATE suite is
the gate system that provides remote-including offsite-truck
processing. Terminals improve gate productivity by reducing
lane-specific clerk assignments and automating truck driver
information capture. This is accomplished through the use
of intelligent camera and console technologies that decrease
the clerk process and truck idle times. smartGATE gate systems
from ESC also increase gate safety by removing clerks from
lane booths and allowing drivers to remain in their trucks.
ESC smartLOG’s architecture delivers maximum performance through the following modules:
- smartCAM – Connects to multiple cameras to capture and parse video.
- smartTool – Creates object recognition templates and scripts used to identify and classify captured video. Templates define the data needed to recognize specific object attributes such as container number.
- smartPRO – Performs object recognition and OCR on classified video frames. Collected images are stitched together to form a single summary image from each camera view. The results are logged in a central database.
- Data distribution system - The data distribution system allows the terminal operator to distribute data such as EIR’s and trucker instructions using such devices as printers, message boards, text messaging or LCD screens.
Maintenance and Support
ESC provides 24X7 on-call support for its smartGATE product suite. Services include preventative maintenance, system monitoring, training, trend analysis and issue review.
