smartLOG: Data Logging and Surveillance System
Designed to enable claims-based equipment inspection and security audit capability, ESC smartLOG, a hardware and software suite, optimizes terminal security and increases productivity. Optical character recognition (OCR) portals consist of multiple cameras positioned to capture critical cargo attributes as trucks enter and exit a facility. Video clips, based on objects recorded from video streams, are logged by timestamp in an indexed database.
An easy to use Web-based interface allows quick retrieval of indexed image records using search criteria such as date and time, container, and chassis number.
Data collected at OCR portals feeds directly to the gate system so when a truck pulls up to the gate pedestal, the corresponding images are automatically presented to clerks for manual inspection. ESC smartLOG can interface with ESC smartGATE, ESC CATOS Terminal Operating System or other proprietary gate and TOS solutions.
By deterring intermodal cargo theft and decoupling inspection from the gate process, smartLOG provides a high return on investment.
smartLOG’s architecture delivers maximum performance through the following modules:
- smartCAM – Connects to multiple cameras to capture and parse video.
- smartTool – Creates object recognition templates and scripts used to identify and classify captured video. Templates define the data needed to recognize specific object attributes such as container number.
- smartPRO – Performs object recognition and OCR on classified video frames. Collected images are stitched together to form a single summary image from each camera view. The results are logged in a central database.
- smartLOG Viewer – A multi-tier, Web based browser tracking tool providing the ability to search for specific images based on date and time, container, and chassis. smartLOG Viewer automates the inspection process by presenting clerks with images of containers from multiple camera angles when a truck arrives at a gate pedestal.
smartLOG Features
- Central Data Repository – An indexed database structure stores critical attributes of inbound and outbound cargo.
- Remote Search Capabilities – Retrieve and view individual video frames of lost or damaged containers from any Web enabled desktop PC running Internet Explorer.
- Intelligent Camera Technology (ICT) – Promotes efficiency by performing OCR on captured video frames.
- Automated Container Inspection Process – Presents precise images related to a specific container when a truck stops at the gate pedestal, enabling detection of container damage
- Access Control – Defined roles determine access to the system.
- Report Generation – Generates analytical and reconciliation reports from Web-based interface.
- Distributed Hosting – Searches ESC smartLOG database hosted on the site’s local server(s).
- State-of-the-Art Non-Proprietary Hardware Components – Offer high quality, high resolution video and data services.
smartLOG Benefits
- Deters intermodal cargo theft
- Reduces claims costs incurred from theft or lost cargo
- Facilitates easy searching and quick information retrieval to locate and view archived data at any time
- Enables remote users with permissions to gain access to image repository via the web
- Enhances DVR systems by creating an index of video frames, which eliminates the need to view hours of video when investigating a claim
- Addresses the common request to extend the archive-ability of standard OCR engines, which house images for immediate and temporary use only
- Automates container inspection process to provide manless secure gates and increase safety
- Lowers cost per move while decreasing turn times
- Enables the addition of cameras, camera servers or archive servers as needed due to flexible, scalable architecture
